  During my Ghana tour in writing the book, KNOW GHANA BETTER , I had encounters with several different languages and I thought it wise to share with you all since it may be very necessary. Now, the total list of languages could be debatable for the fact that there are dialects within languages and some dialects could be seperate languages on their own. THE NGMALA & TIKALI ANCESTRAL DEITY OF THE GA & AKAN PEOPLE

                                                             Ngmala is corrupted from the word Mla that translates as "rules/laws/precautions/regulations" in the Ga language. The Ngmala deities are a group of deities that are seen to be very strict. Ngmala, although worshipped by the Ga people and other coastal dwellers in Ghana is originally an Nzema-Bawule deity. (Ngmala is pronounced Ŋmala) Ga people call their aboriginal deities as the Kpele deities and call the non aboriginal oness as Tsofa woji. These deities (Ngmala and Tikali) are mainly concerntrated in Teshie, a town in the Greater-Accra Region of Ghana. There are also the Otu and Akom deities found throughout the Greater-Accra Region. For Nungua, Otu deities are Abili, Sei-Haku, Asaabri and Bruku. These Akom deities are of Akan origion whiles the Otu are of Guan origin. I...

MODERN GUAN GROUPS OF GHANA AND LANGUAGES

Guans are scattered all over Ghana even to sub-Saharan West Africa. They are not scattered in the sense that they are completely dispersed but then, their settlements is in an amazing pattern that is Western Ghana, Southern Ghana, Northern Ghana, Eastern Ghana. They were initially in clans but we cannot at the moment group them into clans again due to gross linguistic changes that have affected most Guan languages. They have assimilated lots of vocabularies from surrounding languages depending on where they are and this have changed their languages and even accents depending on their current settlement. We can group them into 4 language groups and they are : v   The Ga-Akan related Guans (Southern Guans) v   Akan-related Guans (Western Guans) v   Ewe-Akan related Guans (Oti Guans) v   Northern Guans Let us learn about the 4 groups.
